Hello lovely slow stitchers! I’m here to share with you my latest EPP pattern, and it’s FREE!
I recently have been stitching away on some sample pieces using the newest paper shape to the shop, the honeycomb. Of all the samples I made this rosette, created using half-inch honeycombs and squares, is my favourite. I designed this piece as I went, selecting the Liberty fabrics as I stitched, letting the design and colour scheme evolve organically.
These are some of my fabric colours and I think the aqua blue, teal, yellow and pinks are so pretty together.
As the rosette grew I pictured framing it in what has become my signature style, timber embroidery hoop. I have used a 250mm (10 inch) hoop. When I decided to write a pattern for this design I needed to come up with a name (I find this the hardest part of designing and writing patterns!) Looking at it, the combination of honeycombs and their placement reminded me of a big blousy flower and the Dahlia sprung to mind. I feel like there could be more of these honeycomb flower rosettes in my future, perhaps a whole series of them!
The pattern includes basic English Paper Piecing tips, a colour piecing chart, piecing instructions and a colouring graph so you can play around with fabric colour/placement.I hope you enjoy stitching together your own Dahlia Rosette. Please do share your finished project with me by using the hashtag #dahliarosette and tagging me @the_makers_stash and @missleela_handmade.
You can find the honeycomb papers for this design here and the square papers here.
