Skip Around the Garden Quilt

Description

The Skip Around the Garden Quilt was inspired by traditional Square Trip Around the World quilts. These quilts are wonderfully scrappy, offering a way to use up scraps from other projects.

I was inspired for my love of gardens to create a scrappy hexagon quilt made up of large flower blocks. Each flower block represents a garden bed, the different rows of hexies representing the different plants and flowers. Each ‘garden bed’ is connected by a network of diamond paths, winding their way around them.

This is a wonderful project for using up scraps or delving deep into your fabric stash. It’s a fun way to create different colour and fabric combinations as you ‘plant’ the different hexies together.

To make your own version of the Skip Around the Garden Quilt you will need the following paper templates:

959 x 1” Hexagons

249 x 1” 60 Degree Diamonds

54 x 1” Equilateral Triangles

You will also need a variety of scraps or fabrics in fat sixteenths or fat eights, needle and thread for piecing and quilting, tools for cutting and basting and enough fabric and batting for the back and binding.

Knowledge of the English Paper Piecing method as well as general quilt making is required. This pattern is for beginner to intermediate EPPers and quilt makers.
