Blooming Textile Bowl

I’m not sure what it is that makes creating textile bowls so deliciously addictive. Perhaps it’s the process of slowly stitching each precious piece of vintage linen and fabric down, or maybe it’s that you’re creating a tactile 3D object. Whatever the reason, they are fun to make, and once I begin creating one all other stitching projects get pushed to the side until I finish it.

For this bowl I pulled out some special vintage fabric pieces that were gifted to me for my birthday, as well as some pretty liberty and vintage sheet scraps. I also snipped some pieces from crochet and embroidered doilies, added some vintage yo-yos and made some teeny ones from Liberty scraps.

For the center of my bowl I chose a large rose bloom from a piece of vintage fabric and did a little bit of embroidery over the top to add extra texture. I like how it’s the focal point of the bowl with everything else radiating out from it.

I mostly used small kantha stitch to stitch all my pieces down along with invisible stitch. I then added bits of decorative stitching to add a bit of interest. I didn’t want to overly stitch the vintage fabrics on the back as I wanted to let their loveliness shine through any stitching.

I love how this bowl turned out and I don’t think it will be long before I begin another!

Happy Stitching,

Miss Leela x

P.S Spoiler alert…since I started writing this blog post and at the time of publishing I have indeed started my fourth textile bowl!
