Hi Friends, I thought I would start the year off with a little Re-introducing myself series. It’s always fun to hear and learn about someone’s background, at least I think it is, and I haven’t done something like this for a while. So, to start off, here is a little about me and my background…
I am an only child and I’m very close with my parents, especially my mum who is a multi-talented crafter and has taught me so much. My Dad is also creative and used to do photography as a hobby, even judging at many photographic exhibitions.
I live in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. I have lived here my whole life – 41 years – and don’t intend on moving away anytime soon. If I lived anywhere else, it would be the Southern Highlands – so I’m definitely a mountains/country gal.
I live with my husband Tim who I have been with for 18 years, married for 12 years. We have two children, Matilda 8 and Leo 4 and our not-so-mini daschund Indie and cat Rosie.
After school I studied Interior Design for three years and then worked for 15 years in the one small design firm. I left after having Leo, deciding it was time for a change and to follow my other passion, English Paper Piecing and Slow Stitching.
Some of my favourite things are…
🧵EPP, slow stitching, crochet, knitting, sewing, crafts, art, drawing and painting
🌷Flowers and gardening
🫖Tea and drinking copious amounts of it
🍰Baking cakes and sweet treats
🍫Chocolate
🐦⬛Listening to the early morning bird song, going on picnics and bush walks, visiting the countryside and the beach.
🐴🐰🦆I love animals, my favorite are horses, and I have longed to own my own and learn to ride properly. I also love cats, bunnies and ducks.
💃🏼Dancing and listening to music of many various genres – I have very eclectic taste, from Taylor Swift to punk rock, 1920’s jazz to country, indie rock to rock and roll, folk music to pop music, blues and roots to RnB.
📺Favourite TV Shows – anything wholesome, no crime for me! Gilmore Girls obviously! Heartland, When Calls the Heart, but also, I like things like the Vampire Diaries, Buffy, and Bridgerton. I also love lifestyle shows and watching documentaries on sustainable living.
🍿Favorite Movies – any of the Marvel MCU movies, Harry Potter, any Dance movie, and again sweet and wholesome movies. Love period dramas, especially those based on books – hello Jane Austen.
🏡📷I love and enjoy home making and interior design and styling. I really enjoy creating flat lays and taking pretty styled photos.
🍓I have an adoration for Strawberries and cute kitschy things
🌼Love thrifting for vintage trinkets, home decor, teacups, linens and clothes.
👗I love to dress in feminine, pretty clothes, vintage or modern, floral skirts and dresses, pretty embroidered and crochet tops. My most prized fashion item are my cowgirl boots 👢

I’d love to know more about you, your background and your favourite things!
Happy Stitching,
Miss Leela x

Hi Leela. My name is Bev. I’ve been married to Bill for 52 years and went out before marriage for 4 years. I trained at TAFE in office work following Year 10. I’ve worked for a State Member of Parliament and in a number of Government offices. I finished my working career with the Department of Education in various schools. Loved having holidays off with my four children. I have 11 grandchildren. I found Patchwork about 20 years ago and my other crafts then fell by the wayside. All my grandchildren have single bed quilts bar the last (only 1 1/2 years old). I’ve made quilts for friends, been commissioned for a few (have 3 to make this year) and have sold a few. I recently won an award for a quilt in made. I recently tried Shashiko but not really a fan. I also love EPP and have many EPP hoops on my sewing room walls. Recently discovered my love of embroidery also. I would say EPP is my favourite hand sewing.
Hi Beverely,
Hope you’re having a beautiful day. How lovely to hear from you and learn a little more about you! Congratulations on your quilt award, that’s wonderful. I haven’t delved too much into shashiko yet, other than doing some over one of my hexie hearts which I rather enjoyed. There just seems to be so many interesting techniques to try with embroidery and patchwork! I look forward to staying in touch and seeing what you’re working on. Happy Stitching, Miss Leela x
