Description
To echo the words of Claude Monet “I must have flowers, always, and always.” Having fresh flowers in our home brings me so much joy. They instantly lift a room with their sweet scent and colourful petals. They nod happily at me every morning, greeting me with their showy smiles.
Just as I love and must always have real flowers, I also cannot be without the English Paper Piecing kind of flower, the always iconic, hexagon flower. Flower Garden Ramble came about after I received some lovely Liberty floral fabrics. I wanted to create a mini quilt design that would showcase these fabrics.
I wanted the flowers to stand out as individual blooms and not to have their petals touching each other. The solution was to use diamonds and hexagons to separate the flowers, and I chose a soft green colour. These green shapes both represent the leaves of the flowers, but also the crisscrossing pathways through them.
Flower Garden Ramble reminds me of Victorian Style garden beds with their tightly clipped hedge borders containing masses of brightly coloured flowering plants. It is the perfect pattern to showcase your favourite fabric prints.
You can read about my design process for this quilt in this blog post.
